Is Social Media the End of Email Marketing?

There are people who will argue that the emergence of social media is the death knell of email marketing. This belief is even further supported by predictions that people's dependence on applications like Facebook and Twitter to stay in touch with friends, family, and co-workers will eventually replace email altogether and deem it a relic of the past. But there are also opinions that support the argument that bulk email delivery will continue to play a major role in online marketing.

First of all, there’s the operational nature of social media applications to consider. The fact is, you can’t get a Facebook or Twitter account without an active email address. Even social media applications like these require users to have a “home address” (or active email account) to confirm enrollment, receive notifications, change passwords, and make other account modifications.

This is great news for practitioners of internet marketing who rely on their customers’ dependence on email, just as it is great news for bulk email delivery companies that offer their services to you. So if you’ve bought into the rumors that your bulk email tool will soon become an ineffective and obsolete method of marketing to your customer base, take heart. For all intents and purposes, email is here to stay.
