The Top 3 Signs that Social Media Marketing is Here to Stay

Social media marketing isn’t going anywhere. If you’ve been sitting out the whole Facebook/Twitter revolution, we’ve got bad news for you – you’ve just wasted some serious time. But the good news is, it won’t take you long to play catch-up. Your first step is accepting the fact that, while Facebook may someday fade and Twitter might just tweet itself into oblivion, social media as a whole is here to stay, and we’ve got the top three signs to prove it. Read ‘em and weep… but whatever you do, take advantage of social networking software and get your message out there.

1. Mobile technology. Have you seen it lately? It’s incredible. Smart phones are coming down to ridiculously low prices, cell phones are becoming ubiquitously web enabled, and the app market is booming like nothing anyone’s ever seen. The fact that a huge majority of applications downloaded are socially enabled should be enough of a sign right there that social media marketing is on strong legs.

2. According to a recent headcount, there are over 600 million Facebook users and about a third that many Twitter users. It’s being predicted that Facebook may reach one billion users before 2012. Enough said.

3. Social media marketing is no different from traditional marketing. Okay sure, the medium has changed and in many ways so has the method of advertisement – you can’t exactly take a 1970s approach to marketing these days. But if you reject social media marketing now, you risk making the big mistake that print advertisers made when failing to get on the TV commercial bandwagon.
