The email voucher is one of the great underused online email marketing tools. Taking advantage of the desire of your customer base to save money is almost guaranteed to promote business and boost sales, but you have to know the right way to approach it. Here are a few tips:

  • Establish a minimum purchase amount. Creating an email voucher that offers significant savings when a buyer purchases anywhere from $25 to $50 is doubly effective, bringing in more money while giving your customer the satisfaction of having landed a smart deal.
  • Put expiration dates on your vouchers. Far too many potential customers will keep an email voucher in their inbox if there’s no sense of urgency attached to it, and wind up never using it. You also won’t be able to accurately judge the success of your campaign without a definitive timeframe to measure the responsiveness of your customer base. Determining this tells you if it’s profitable to repeat, or if you need to tweak certain aspects to minimize loss and maximize profit.
  • Design your voucher effectively. Here’s where good email writing comes into play, because it’s not only an eye-catching design that’s important, but the use of specific buzzwords to pique your customers’ interest. But don’t forget to stay away from using words like “free” and “savings” in your subject line to keep your email message from being accidentally flagged as spam.
